Ken's Steamwheedle Characters

i have played wow for a few years with some occasional time off. in that time i've done just about everything in the game except some of the high level stuff. when you hit the level cap, the only way for your character to improve is to get better gear through raiding or pvp. i much prefer adventuring through the world to grinding dungeons or battlegrounds. so my first characters in the game never had any cool armor sets.

amanda and i have played together for the past 13 months. she was new to the game and we started new characters together on a server that was new to me, so it was like a fresh start. this time through the game i was less concerned about having the best gear and more interested in having gear that looks good, whether it's the best or not. because i know i'm not interested in all the grinding at the top, i make sure to enjoy the journey a bit more. that's why this time around, all my characters have matching gear.

aylward is my main character. he is a level 70 human paladin. i chose a paladin because it was one of two classes that i hadn't played extensively at the time. for a long time through his middle ages he had a matching set of armor, but i don't have a screenshot of that. blizzard has made more of an effort to accommodate different play styles and because of that the content in the "burning crusade" expansion is a lot more rewarding for small groups of players. aylward is wearing parts of three different sets and gets the set bonus from each. he also has a few [purples], so he is reasonably well equipped. if i ever felt the inclination to go raiding or grind pvp, aylward is prepared.

the other class that i hadn't played extensively a year ago was warlock, so when it came time to create another character, warlock was the first choice. however, zoy was never going to advance in levels much because he was intended from the start to be my auction house alt. zoy has generated tens of thousands of gold in his lifetime and spends most of his time in stormwind. he can sometimes be seen wearing very rare items.

now it was february and the "burning crusade" expansion was out. it was time to try the new races! xaitha is a level 29 blood elf warlock. she has a very nice matching outfit and mostly just terrorizes the 20-29 bracket battlegrounds. she's not a twink because she earned the money for her outfit on her own. (the prices were also quite low because the horde population on steamwheedle is very low, so the economy on that side hasn't had much inflation) she's affliction spec, so she has dots and fear and knows how to use them. she has been known to pwn the crap out of twinks and use her superior understanding of tactics to totally dominate arathi basin.

corundum is a miner and skinner. he was created to gather raw materials for xaitha's and hematite's (amanda's blood elf) trade skills. playing a hunter in wow is so easy it's like cheating, so he is well-equipped to gather the highest level items they might need. he's mostly retired now, but when he was out gathering he frequently killed monsters much higher level than him.

cerrina is a level 53 draenei shadow priest. i enjoy playing priest because not only are you a capable healer, but you can do lots of damage as well. the new priest shadow talent in "burning crusade" that restores mana to the entire party helps to make being a shadow priest a more attractive option for grouping. cerrina and esmira (amanda's draenei shaman) have the benefit of being supplied by level 70s, so they generally get anything they want and kick a lot of butt.

solatia is a level 38 hunter and a pretty new character. amanda was curious about druid, so we made another new pair of characters. druid is very versatile, so i made a hunter to supply a big dose of kickass to the equation. our main characters are at the point where they aren't saving up gold for anything, so even more than cerrina and esmira, soltia and lachrymose can have anything they want. it was actually solatia that inspired me to take screenshots of my character's outfits. she's gone through several matching outfits already. she kept the last one in the bank and has her next one already planned out.
